Sunday – Arrive

Join the coach and begin your Highland adventure as you travel north through sweeping glens, shimmering lochs and the dramatic scenery that defines the Scottish Highlands. By early evening you arrive in Strathpeffer, your welcoming base for the journey ahead. Settle into the grand Ben Wyvis Hotel, relax after your travels, and enjoy a delicious three‑course dinner as anticipation builds for the days to come.


Monday - Ullapool, Durness, Thurso

After breakfast, check out and embark on your journey along the wild and wonderful North West Coast. Pause in Ullapool to admire views over Loch Broom and explore its charming harbour before travelling deeper into the Highlands, where rugged mountains and vast seascapes unfold around every bend. Stop at the iconic Kylesku Bridge for photographs, then continue to Durness, home to one of the most pristine white‑sand beaches in Scotland and a favourite childhood retreat of John Lennon. Enjoy time to explore atmospheric Smoo Cave, dip your toes in the North Sea, and savour your included packed lunch. The route then winds past serene Loch Eriboll and through remote Highland countryside before reaching the Viking town of Thurso. Settle into the Castletown Hotel and enjoy a hearty evening meal featuring locally sourced produce. (lunch included)


Tuesday - John O'Groats, Wick

Today you explore the far‑reaches of Caithness, travelling through Dunnet and Mey with wonderful views across to Orkney and Stroma. Arrive at legendary John O’Groats, the end of the road, where you can browse the shops or take a scenic walk to the dramatic Duncansby Stacks. Continue along the rugged coastline to Wick, a region rich in history and striking natural beauty, offering countless photo opportunities. This afternoon, journey south along the NC500 route through Dornoch, Tain and the Black Isle before returning to Strathpeffer for your final night. Enjoy another delicious three‑course dinner at the Ben Wyvis Hotel.


Wednesday - Return

After breakfast, depart Strathpeffer with your North Coast 500 adventure complete. Relax and enjoy the journey home, carrying with you unforgettable memories of Scotland’s wild northern edge.

Situated in idyllic woodland in the Victorian spa town of Strathpeffer in the shadow of its namesake mountain the Ben Wyvis Hotel is a great base for exploring the Scottish Highlands.  The Ben Wyvis Hotel is a grand Victorian mansion full of character and charm and is complemented by the nature and adventure that sits on the doorstep. The hotel is surrounded by five acres of woodlands and landscaped mature gardens which are just as impressive as the building itself.

STATION HOTEL - THURSO

Just a three minute walk from the train station and the River Thurso, you will find the Station Hotel. This straightforward hotel is a 4-minute walk from the town centre and a 9-minute walk from Thurso Bay. Simple rooms offer free WiFi, flat-screen TVs, and tea and coffeemaking equipment. All have en suite bathrooms, while some add sitting areas and desks. Functional 1- and 2-bedroom apartments add microwaves and washer/dryers. Full Scottish breakfast and parking are free. There's also a casual restaurant and bar.
