JEDBURGH ABBEY & ROSSLYN CHAPEL
This morning after breakfast in the hotel join the coach as we travel to Jedburgh Abbey. Discover the wonderful collection of items on display relating to Mary's life in the Museum and the beauty and significance of the 12 century Abbey. Some time at leisure in Jedburgh before we journey to Rosslyn Chapel on the outskirts of Edinburgh. This enticing building stands perched above the River North Esk, and has done so since 1446. Still a place of worship today, the chapel is shrouded in mystery with links to the Knights Templar and Holy Grail. After a guided tour of the exquisite carvings inside and out, and time for a refreshment in the café before we return to the hotel in Melrose late afternoon.
MELROSE & MELLERSTAIN HOUSE
Enjoy time in Melrose this morning. Mellerstain House awaits your arrival this afternoon, one of the great houses of Scotland built in 1725 and designed by renowned architect Robert Adam. Set in over 100 acres of parkland & manicured Italianate gardens, enjoy a tour of the beautiful Georgian mansion which has elaborately decorated ceilings, rooms adorned with fascinating art and antique furniture.
PEEBLES & TRAQUAIR HOUSE
This morning we travel to Peebles where you can explore the Borders town at leisure before our visit to Traquair House in the afternoon. Scotland’s oldest inhabited House. Visited by 27 Scottish Kings and Queens Traquair dates back to 1107 and has been lived in by the Stuart family since 1491 this building has a fascinating history to explore. Originally a royal hunting lodge, Traquair played host to Mary Queen of Scots and later as staunch Catholics they supported the Jacobite cause without counting the cost. Enjoy a tour and time to wander the grounds, chapel & brewery.
WAVERLEY CASTLE HOTEL - MELROSE
The majestic Waverley Castle Hotel is one of the hotels near Melrose, just a mile from the centre. Set in five acres of parkland, in the Scottish Borders the hotel offers the perfect base from which to explore its incredible surroundings.
