DURHAM

After a delicious breakfast this morning we have a tour to nearby Durham. The city is steeped in history and there are many beautiful buildings to explore including the Norman castle and Cathedral, along with Botanic Gardens, parks and museums. Set on the River Wear this wonderfully vibrant city offers relaxing riverside walk or river cruise, superb cafés, artisan workshops and boutiques for you to enjoy today. Dinner will be served in the hotel restaurant this evening.


ALNWICK CASTLE

After a full English breakfast, we visit the grand Alnwick Castle. Located in the heart of Northumberland, this castle is one of the most historic sites in the country and is often used as a set location for films and TV shows such as Robin Hood, Harry Potter and Downton Abbey. The castle has over 900 years of history to discover, a fascinating experience is guaranteed here. You will also have leisure time to explore medieval Alnwick itself, with its atmospheric market square and cobbled lanes lined with boutique stores. Browse the shops, watch the world go by from one of the cafés, or pick something up from one of the second-hand book stores. We return to the hotel where you can relax before a delicious dinner this evening.



SYCAMORE GAP TREE, HEXHAM & COREBRIDGE ROMAN TOWN

After a hearty English breakfast this morning in the hotel, join the coach and your fellow passengers as we explore the most important sites near Hadrians Wall. Our first visit today is a very special one, where we take you to The Sill Discovery Centre and view the remains of the Sycamore Gap Tree which was illegally felled in 2023. The centre is also close to the site where the tree once stood for over 150 years. Our next stop today stop is the ancient market town of Hexham - where stunningarchitecture, picturesque parks, and a bloody history are all waiting to be explored. Immerse yourself in stories about the Vikings, Border Reivers, and explore at leisure the Anglo-Saxon Abbey.  Our last stop of the day follows in the footsteps of the Romans and the route of Hadrian’s Wall. Corebridge is the most northerly town in the Roman Empire and is the place to visit to find out how people lived, worked and worshipped near Hadrian’s Wall. Walk in the footsteps of the Romans, explore the museum and discover the hundreds of artefacts held within. Enjoy a delicious 3 course meal this evening in the hotel restaurant on our last night in Redworth Hall Hotel.
